Stratosphere’s Top of the World Food & Wine Event to Celebrate 17 Years of Wine Excellence
Top of the World Restaurant, atop the iconic Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower, will celebrate 17 consecutive years as a recipient of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence during a special food and wine event on January 22, 2014 from 6 – 8 pm.
First honored by Wine Spectator in 1996, the Award of Excellence recognizes Top of the World Restaurant for its selection of quality wine producers as well as the “thematic” pairing to the menu in both price and style.
To celebrate the 17 years, Executive Chef Rick Giffen will offer a unique seven-course tasting menu, in which many courses are paired with selections from Joseph Phelps Vineyards. Special guest Bill Phelps, President of Joseph Phelps Vineyards, will treat guests to an entertaining discussion of wines, sign and personalize wine selections for sale at the event.
“We are so proud of this award and the special recognition by Wine Spectator,” said Top of the World Wine Director and Sommelier, Dean Wachstetter. “It’s an acknowledgment of the effort we make to provide guests a consistently diverse selection of the best wines for a variety of palates.”
Joseph Phelps Vineyards’ flagship wine, Insignia, is recognized by many wine enthusiasts as one of the world’s great wines. Thirty-two of 37 vintages have been rated ninety or more points in many wine publications. Its 2002 vintage was awarded “Wine of the Year” by Wine Spectator.
