Steve March-Torme Performs “Snap, Sizzle Pop!” At the Smith Center’s Cabaret
Jazz in Las Vegas September 27 and September 28 Evening Performances 7 p.m.
Steve March-Tormé brings “Snap, Sizzle, Pop!” to the The Smith Center’s Cabaret Jazz on Sept. 27 and 28. Steve performs finger-snapping jazz standards, original songs, and enduring pop tunes in captivating, charismatic style and with an extraordinary voice that smolders on ballads and electrifies when it swings.
Evening performances are 7 p.m.
A natural interest exists in hearing Steve sing the songs for which his father, the legendary Mel Tormé, was known. And, Steve pays homage to this legacy by featuring some of the most enduring, well-crafted standards ever written, beautifully arranged to appeal to the most nostalgic listener as well as to thrill the most sophisticated. Steve’s other accomplished role model was his stepfather, Hal March (actor and host of The $64,000 Question Show), and it shows in the way Steve serves up his pop/jazz with wit, charm and a warmth that engages audiences from Los Angeles to Las Vegas to New York to London. Steve is backed by a quartet that grooves and soars as effortlessly as it swings: Steve Rawlins on piano, Bob Sachs on bass, Mike Mechem on drums, and Joe Lano on guitar.
Steve has an extraordinary vocal talent that stands on its own regardless of his famous last name. He performs in venues from intimate jazz clubs to Performing Arts Centers and symphonies to festivals worldwide. After a recent week-long engagement in London, Peter Vacher of London Jazz News wrote,” At the snap of a finger, he turned this colourful room into Las Vegas at show-time before moderating the tempo and making it the most intimate space in town. In the language of show business, he’s a class act.”
Steve relocated to the Midwest several years ago with his young family, and looks forward to a reunion of friends and family while he is in town–some coming in from Los Angeles, but many local. Among them, childhood friends Desi Arnaz Jr. and Billy Hinsche will be in the audience, along with his aunt, retired Nevada politician Myrna Williams, and her family. Show time is 7 p.m., and tickets are available at The Smith Center, tel 702-749-2000, www.thesmithcenter.com.
Steve will also appear on Dennis Bono’s radio/live performance show on Thurs.,Sept. 26th at approximately 1:00 p.m. and on Michele LaFong’s radio show the same day between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
