Exhibition of local winners in 100th annual event slated for Jan. 28-March 27

Celebrating the creativity of local middle- and high school-age students in the visual arts and the written word, the Springs Preserve will host an exhibition of local award winners in the 100th annual Scholastic Art &Writing Awards, Jan. 28 through March 27.

The exhibition will feature works by local teens in such disciplines as architecture, ceramics and glass, critical essays, digital art, scriptwriting, fashion, film and animation, journalism, novel writing, painting, photography, poetry, sculpture, and many others.

“We received more than a thousand entries from hundreds of incredibly talented students,” said Springs Preserve Manager Lisa Windom. “The level of creativity on display is absolutely inspiring.”

Access to the Scholastic Art &Writing Awards Exhibition is included in Springs Preserve admission. Admission is $9.95 adults, $4.95 children (ages 3-17), free for children ages 2 and under. Tickets can be purchased in advance at springspreserve.org or at the box office.

For the past 100 years, the Scholastic Art &Writing Awards have been a space for teens to push boundaries and make waves with their creative pursuits. The program has served as a launch pad for generations of artists, writers, and professionals in a wide variety of industries, with many luminaries attributing their confidence to pursue their careers to the Awards. Since their inception, the Scholastic Art &Writing Awards have encouraged the passions, talents, and perspectives of millions of teens, validating their creative abilities and the belief that their voices matter.

As the Southern Nevada Regional Affiliate, the Springs Preserve manages the program locally. Students can receive Honorable Mention, Silver Key or Gold Key awards in multiple categories, with the highest scoring Gold Key pieces considered for the local American Visions (art) or American Voices (writing) awards, acting as a Best-In-Show award (there are five nominees in both art and writing, with the final award announced in late spring). Students who win awards are eligible for scholarships at the national level. Competitive grants are also available for educators.
