SPRING LOW LANDS REBELS IN SIXTH AT WESTBROOK INVITATIONAL
Second straight 5-under-par round gives UNLV spring-season best tournament score of 2-under 862
The UNLV women’s golf team recorded a second straight 5-under in Monday’s final round to finish tied for sixth at the Westbrook Invitational hosted by Wisconsin at Westbrook Village Golf Club (Par 72, 6,248 yards).
The Rebels ended the two-day event with a spring-season low of 2-under 862 to finish knotted up with Oklahoma (-2) and Minnesota (-2) on the team leaderboard – only one shot behind fifth-place finisher Rutgers (-3). Additionally, super senior Veronica Joels posted her own season-low score at 4-under (70-71-71) for the tournament after a final-round 1-under 71, which subsequently led to her highest individual finish this season in a tie for eighth.
Also contributing to the Scarlet & Gray’s score drop on the second day of competition, senior Nicole Lorup led all Rebels with a final-round 4-under 68. She finished the 54-hole tournament in a tie for 33rd at 3-over, alongside her teammates in sophomore McKenzi Hall (+3) and freshman Thienna Huynh (+3). Rounding out UNLV’s scoring was sophomore Toa Yokoyama (+6) in a tie for 49th.
Leaving with the team title, Nebraska shot a 21-under 843 for a seven-shot advantage over No. 24 Ohio State (-14) in second place. On the individual side, Denver’s Alyssa Bean (-9) and the Buckeyes’ Caley McGinty were the top finishers at 9-under.
UP NEXT FOR THE REBELS: UNLV will next send individuals to play in South Dakota State’s Jackrabbit Invitational from March 13-14 in Boulder City, Nevada, at Boulder Creek Golf Club. As a team, the Rebels will next compete in Kansas State’s Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Arizona from March 17-19.
