Spencer Dunaway has been hired as an assistant coach for the UNLV men’s golf program, head coach Jean-Paul Hebert announced Thursday.

“We proudly welcome Coach Dunaway to the Rebel golf family,” said Hebert. “With Spencer on board, our team will benefit from not only a passionate golf coach, but an outstanding person as well. I know he’s ready to get to work and that he will have an immediate and lasting impact on our program.”

Dunaway comes to Las Vegas after serving in the same role at Utah for the 2022-23 season. During that stint, he helped lead the Utes to six top-10 finishes, the program’s second-highest individual finisher at a Pac-12 Championship and an individual NCAA Regional qualifier.

“I’m so excited to be a part of the UNLV family and I can’t wait to get to work on Jean-Paul’s staff,” said Dunaway. “UNLV golf is a special program, right up there with the all-time great golf programs in the nation, so having the opportunity to be a part of it was something that I couldn’t pass up. Jean-Paul has had many successful years at the highest level of college golf as a player and coach, so I’m excited to be able to learn from him and work to help him turn this program into a national powerhouse once again.”

Prior to Utah, Dunaway began his coaching career in 2021 at Utah Tech. In his lone season with Trailblazers, the men’s golf team posted three top-10 finishes, highlighted by a fifth-place outing at the Southern Utah Pizza Hut Pat Hicks Invitational Open.

A former student-athlete, Dunaway played four years of collegiate golf at BYU, where he finished his career with one win (2020 San Diego State Coronado Invitational), a 73.89 career scoring average, nine top-20 finishes and three top-five outings. Additionally, Dunaway won the 2021 Hawaii State Amatuer title, was a two-time Utah State Amateur semifinalist and qualified for the U.S. Amateur at Pebble Beach in 2018.

A 2016-17 All-WCC honorable mention and 2015-16 Freshman All-WCC Team selection, Dunaway helped guide the Cougars to a 2017 West Coast Conference title, three straight NCAA Regional appearances and back-to-back NCAA Championship trips in 2018 and 2019.

Originally from Mililani, Hawaii, Dunaway graduated from BYU in 2020 with his bachelor’s degree in psychology. He has a wife, Lauren, and his hobbies include playing pickleball, boating and watching movies.
