South Point Arena and Cox Charities Partner for 2014 Tuff Hedeman Championship Bull Riding Event

Local charity benefits from Vegas Shootout at South Point on Saturday April 19

South Point Arena partners with Cox Charities to celebrate the return of the Championship Bull Riding (CBR) tour’s Tuff Hedeman Vegas Shootout, on Saturday, April 19 at 8 p.m. Cox Charities, an initiative focused on improving the quality of life for children and families of Southern Nevada, will receive a charitable contribution of $3 for every ticket sold to the rodeo event.

“For 36 weeks of the year, South Point is home to some of Las Vegas’ largest western events,” said Ryan Growney, general manager of the South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa. “Our ongoing relationship with Cox Charities provides us the opportunity to give back to the community that supports us, by donating a portion of the proceeds from one of our top rodeo events.”

Cox Charities is an employee-run philanthropic initiative enabled by local cable operator Cox Communications.  Having given away nearly $1 million to local nonprofits since its inception, Cox Charities is dedicated to supporting organizations which benefit children, families, education – particularly STEM focued initiatives, and diversity.

“It’s obvious that the South Point and Tuff Hedeman are as supportive of the local community as are the 1300 Cox Las Vegas employees,” said Stephanie Stallworth, director of Public Affairs for Cox Communications. “Our employees love raising money to benefit local non-profits through Cox Charities. Our partnership with the CBR will help even more charities right here in Southern Nevada.”

This year’s CBR Tuff Hedeman Vegas Shootout, presented by Boot Barn, showcases the world’s top 24 riders competing during three rounds of an “8-second formation” competition. The tour will include Aaron Pass, all-star rider and current CBR champion, Cole Echols, the newly crowned 2013 CBR World Champion, and Cody Teel, the 2012 PRCA World Champion. Guests can watch the best of the best in bull riding as participants compete for record-setting prizes and the opportunity to participate in the “The Road to Cheyenne CBR Tour Finale.”

Tickets for the Tuff Hedeman Vegas Shootout are now on sale, beginning at $20. Discount coupons are available for all military, children and senior citizens at Boot Barn, Cox Solution Stores and other South Point sponsor locations. About Cox Charities
Since 2007, Cox Charities has awarded nearly $1 million in grants to Southern Nevada non-profit organizations that support children, families and education, with a focus on STEM initiatives. The program was created as a result of employees’ interest in the giving strategies of the company. Cox Charities is a partnership with United Way of Southern Nevada and is funded primarily by Cox employee contributions and a variety of fundraisers including an annual Cox Charities Golf Tournament. A committee, comprised entirely of Cox employees, reviews all grant applications and selects the recipients. The Cox Charities Advisory Board, also employee-led, approves the grants and awards the monies.
