@UNLVTRACKCC | 2023 Schedule | MW Release
UNLV track & field’s Rosa Santana was named the 2023 Co-Mountain West Women’s Indoor Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Year alongside Emilia Sjostrand from San Jose State, as voted on by the league’s head coaches.
The honor is awarded to the best female student-athlete in the conference following the conclusion of the indoor season.
Santana is the first Rebel to earn the award since it was established in 2008. The honor comes after an indoor season in which the Rebel shot put thrower was selected to the All-MW Indoor Team, earned the MW Conference Champion title in the shot put and was named USTFCCCA First Team All-America.
The Dominican Republic native started the indoor season at the New Mexico Team Open back on Jan. 27, setting the program and Dominican Republic national record in the women’s shot put with a mark of 17.53m. She won the shot put event again two weeks later at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational with another record-setting mark of 17.93m, which qualified her for the NCAA Indoor Championships. At the 2023 MW Indoor Championships, Santana set the conference record in the women’s shot put with a first-place mark of 17.91m. Santana closed out her record-breaking season with a third-place finish and a program-record mark of 18.43m at the 2023 NCAA DI Indoor Track & Field Championships.
2023 OUTDOOR SEASON: Rosa and the Rebels will begin the 2023 outdoor season with a trip to the Golden State for the Aztec Invitational held this Thursday through Saturday at the SDSU Sports Deck in San Diego.
