SACAI and YSL: Redken’s Runway Report from Paris with hair by Guido

If the look Redken Creative Consultant Guido created at the Sacai Fall 2012 show yesterday morning was “an innocent ponytail with a dark edge,” then the slicked-back Yves Saint Laurent Fall 2012 look he created later in the afternoon was definitely all dark edge, bordering on dominatrix. His tight, sleek hairstyle combined with the blood-red lacquer lip were essential to the complete look of the darkly sensual, leather and chain-mail clad woman designer Stefano Pilati had in mind for his last YSL show.

SACAI

“The inspiration for this look was a young girl who’s a little naïve, never cut her hair before. I added extensions to all of the girls so their hair was very long and then pulled it back into a messy ponytail – the girl is innocent with an edge.  This is a kind of dark innocence though, a young gothic look.” –Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products:

-wool shake 08 gel-slush texturizer
-powder grip 03 mattifying hair powder
-forceful 23 super strength finishing spray

Create the Look:

  1. Apply wool shake 08 gel-slush texturizer all over damp hair to provide texture and blow dry with a flat boar bristle brush.
  2. Create a messy center part and pull hair into a low ponytail, securing with an elastic.
  3. Shake a small amount of powder grip 03 into hands and work into the roots and crown, undoing some of the hair at the top to create a messy look. Take out some of the pieces framing the face as well.
  4. Spray the wisps of hair around the face with forceful 23 hairspray.

YVES SAINT LAURENT

“The look at YSL today was inspired by a kind of Helmet Newton beauty. It is very tough-chic and futuristic; I like to describe the look as ‘bladerunner-esque.’” –Guido, Redken Creative Consultant

Redken Products:

-hardwear 16 super-strong sculpting gel
-glass 01 smoothing serum

Create the Look:

1. Start with clean, dry hair.
2. Section hair starting at the nape of the neck and apply hardwear 16 gel from roots to ends of each section, using a wide toothed comb or rake through with fingers so it is slicked back, but not super-smooth.
3. Continue in sections from the back up to the front.
4. Gather hair back into a tight ponytail  at the nape, secure with elastic and twist hair into a flat knot, securing with open fasteners.
5. Finish with glass 01 smoothing serum for an extra glossy finish.
