The UNLV volleyball program saw four of its players get recognized not only for their athletics prowess, but for their success in the classroom as they were named to the 2022 Academic All‐District® Volleyball Team.

Selected by the newly renamed organization College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), the list recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. To be eligible, players must hold at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average in at least their second year and be a starter or key reserve for their teams.

Sophomore middle blocker Dakota Quinlan earned her first academic recognition with a 3.64 GPA in business. The Carson, California native played in 29 games for the Rebels this season, she accumulated a total of 128 kills,  31 digs, 66 total blocks, a hitting percentage of .338 and 167.5 total points scored. Quinlan was also named to the Dean’s Honor List spring 2022.

Sophomore right-side Chloe Thomas also earned her first academic accolade with a 3.55 in anthropology. Thomas (Allen, Texas) closed out the season with 217 total kills, 55 digs, 80 total blocks and 261 points scored. Thomas was named to the Dean’s Honor List in spring 2022 as well.

Graduate student setter Jhenna Gabriel was also named Mountain West Newcomer of the Year earlier this season. Ranking first in the conference and 39th in the nation with 1149 total assists, 10.45 per set, Gabriel (Honolulu, Hawai’i) was earlier named First Team All-Mountain West. Jhenna earned her undergraduate at Texas and her master’s degree earlier this year, she will finish her graduate non-degree seeking program in May.

Junior right-side/opposite hitter Gabrielle Arretche-Ramos earned a spot with a GPA of 3.62 in kinesiological sciences. Ranking fourth in the MW for both kills per set (3.65) and in points per set (4.04), Arretche-Ramos (Rancho Cucamonga, California) was earlier this week named First Team All-Mountain West. She is a two-time member of the Dean’s Honor List and was named to the Spring 2021 Academic All-MW Team and was a 2021 MW Scholar-Athlete Award recipient.

The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late December.
