UNLV Athletics will celebrate Thomas & Mack Center’s 40th Anniversary during 8 p.m. game

 

The UNLV men’s basketball team will be back at home to host Fresno State on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 8 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center.

 

PROMOTIONS: UNLV Athletics will celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the famed Thomas & Mack Center Tuesday night. Fans in attendance will receive a free Thomas & Mack Center 40th Anniversary Rally Towel along with a special throwback poster print featuring highlights of the arena’s rich history. Exclusive ticket offers celebrating 40 years of UNLV men’s basketball in the Thomas & Mack Center are also available and include a $40 lower bowl ticket special and a $40 Ticket Pack (four-pack of tickets at an all-in price in the upper level). The evening will also feature $2 beers through halftime, along with special throwback concession pricing. LAST TIME OUT: UNLV (10-9, 3-4) used a huge second half to come back and win 77-65 Saturday at San Jose State. The Runnin’ Rebels shot 80% from the field in the game’s final 20 minutes, including making each of their final 14 shots in the contest. UNLV outscored SJSU 42-20 during the final 14 minutes of the second half. UNLV trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half and 10 with 14 minutes to play in the game. Keylan Boone had a game-high-tying 18 points, while Dedan Thomas Jr. added 16 and Jackie Johnson III contributed 12. Luis Rodriguez had a game-high eight rebounds, while Thomas Jr. dished out a game-high-tying six assists with only one turnover.

 

RUNNIN’ REBEL LEADERS: Five UNLV players are averaging double figures in scoring this season in Kalib Boone (12.6 ppg), Luis Rodriguez (12.1 ppg), Dedan Thomas Jr. (11.8 ppg), Keylan Boone (11.8 ppg) and Jalen Hill (10.7 ppg). Rodriguez leads the team in rebounds (7.1 rpg, 6th in MW) and steals (1.8, 3rd in MW), Dedan Thomas Jr. is the assists leader (6.3 apg, 11th in nation), and Boone leads in field-goal percentage (62.7, 16th in nation) and blocks (1.6 bpg, 3rd in MW). Hill missed six games with a wrist injury and returned at San Diego State on Jan. 6, but left late in the first half in that game after suffering a knee injury, which an MRI later revealed to be a season-ending ACL tear.

 

ABOUT THE ROSTER: This season’s UNLV squad features seven returners from last year’s team along with seven newcomers. The newcomers are made up of three Division I transfers, a junior college transfer and three freshmen. UNLV has 10 upperclassmen, including five fifth-year seniors. A total of four players on the roster are playing in their hometown of Las Vegas. The Runnin’ Rebels return two starters in Luis Rodriguez and Justin Webster, who averaged 10.7 and 8.2 points per game last season, respectively. Rodriguez led last season’s team in rebounding (5.7 rpg).

 

ABOUT THE OPPONENT: Fresno State (9-11, 2-5) enters Tuesday’s game off a win over Air Force on Saturday (84-70). The Bulldogs had lost two straight prior to that (at Utah State, 83-62; vs. Boise State, 72-68). Fresno State is 2-2 in its last four games. Isaiah Hill leads the team in scoring at 12.5 ppg and assists at 6.1 apg (4th in MW). Enoch Boakye is the team’s rebounding leader at 8.2 fpg (3rd in MW). The Bulldogs are 1-5 in true road games this season and 2-7 overall away from home. Fresno State ranks 47th in the country in field goal percentage at 47.6. The Bulldogs went 11-20 overall last season, including 6-12 in MW play to finish tied for eighth in the league standings. Led by head coach Justin Hutson, who was a UNLV assistant coach from 2011-13, Fresno State has 11 upperclassmen on its 15-man roster.
