LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men’s basketball team (10-2), winner of four straight games, will close out its non-conference season on Friday, Dec. 22, at 7 p.m. vs. Northern Colorado (9-3) at the Thomas & Mack Center.
The game will feature a holiday theme with giveaways all night long, including seat upgrades, season tickets, UNLV gear, electronics and will include other holiday fun. Tickets may be purchased at UNLVtickets.com, on the phone at (702) 739-FANS or by visiting the Thomas & Mack Center Box Office.
The Runnin’ Rebels are coming off a 95-63 win over Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday night. Seven UNLV players scored in double figures in the game at the Thomas & Mack Center, which was its first at home in 18 days as the facility was hosting the National Finals Rodeo for most of the month.
The Runnin’ Rebels rank as the No. 4 rebounding team in the country with 44.3 rpg, are fifth in field-goal percentage (52.2), seventh in scoring (90.9) and ninth in 3-point field-goal percentage defense (28.2). Individually, junior forward Shakur Juiston and freshman forward Brandon McCoy rank in the top 10 in the country in rebounding. Juiston is eighth with 10.9 rpg, while McCoy is ninth with 10.8 rpg. UNLV is the only team in the nation with two top-10 rebounders. McCoy ranks sixth in double-doubles with eight, while Juiston is 18th with six. Senior guard Jordan Johnson is 12th in the nation in assists with 6.9 apg.
The 2017-18 season marks the second under head coach Marvin Menzies for the Runnin’ Rebels. Menzies and his staff brought in a recruiting class for this year that has been ranked as high as No. 12 in the country and features McCoy, who was a McDonald’s High School All-American, and Juiston, last year’s National Junior College Player of the Year. The Runnin’ Rebels also returned their leading scorer from last season – senior guard Jovan Mooring. Four Runnin’ Rebels are averaging double figures, led by McCoy’s 19.7 ppg, which ranks first in the Mountain West.
Friday’s game will be broadcast by Stadium on Facebook with Ari Wolfe and Doug Gottlieb calling the action. Rachel Lindsay is the sideline reporter. Jon Sandler and former Runnin’ Rebel Robert Smith will handle the UNLV radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM/100.9 FM and online via the UNLV Gameday App and TuneIn (link at UNLVRebels.com).
