After winning five of its last six games and starting Mountain West play 4-1, the UNLV men’s basketball team will return home for two games this week at the Thomas & Mack Center, where it has won each of its last four games.
The Runnin’ Rebels (9-9, 4-1) host San Jose State (6-12, 2-4) on Wednesday, Jan. 15 at 8 p.m. Fans can bring a business card to the game for a free popcorn voucher as part of the Hump Day Work Perk promotion. Tickets start at just $16 if purchased at least a day in advance at UNLVtickets.com, by calling 702-739-FANS or by visiting the Thomas & Mack Center Box Office.
UNLV split last week’s road trip with a 73-66 loss at Boise State on Wednesday and a 78-69 overtime win at Wyoming on Saturday. The game vs. the Cowboys marked UNLV’s fifth overtime game of the season.
Junior guard Amauri Hardy leads four UNLV players averaging in double-figure scoring with 14.2 points per game (9th in MW), while junior forward Mbacke Diong is the team’s leading rebounder with 8.9 per contest (5th in MW). UNLV is under new leadership this year in head coach T.J. Otzelberger.
San Jose State is in its third year under head coach Jean Prioleau. The Spartans saw their three-game home winning streak snapped on Saturday in an 81-70 loss to Colorado State. The wins during the streak were against Pepperdine (83-68), New Mexico (88-85) and UNR (70-68). Seneca Knight leads the team in scoring with 13.7 ppg, while Christian Anigwe is the team’s leading rebounder (6.2 rpg).
Wednesday’s game will be televised by AT&T SportsNet with Jenny Cavnar and Joe Cravens calling the action.
