After dominating defending Mountain West champion and unanimous preseason favorite Utah State on New Year’s Day to improve its league record to 2-0, the UNLV men’s basketball team will close out its five-game homestand on Saturday, January 4 at 7 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center by hosting Air Force.

UNLV (7-8, 2-0) has won three straight games, including 70-53 over the Aggies. Sophomore guard Bryce Hamilton scored a game-high 20 points on 9 of 11 shooting, while junior forward Mbacke Diong recorded his third double-double of the season with 10 points and 14 rebounds. The Runnin’ Rebels limited Utah State to just 2 of 19 on 3-pointers (10.5 percent), 17 of 52 overall from the field (32.7 percent) and held the Aggies to their lowest point total of the season.

Junior guard Amauri Hardy leads four UNLV players averaging in double-figure scoring with 15.1 points per game (9th in MW), while junior forward Mbacke Diong is the team’s leading rebounder with 9.4 per contest (5th in MW). UNLV is under new leadership this year in head coach T.J. Otzelberger.

Air Force (7-7, 1-1) is in its eighth year under head coach Dave Pilipovich. The Falcons have won three of their last four games, including Tuesday vs. UC Riverside (105-56). Lavelle Scottie leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 14.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

Saturday’s game will be televised by ESPNU with Steve Quis and Richie Schueler calling the action.
