The UNLV men’s basketball team will look to remain unbeaten in Mountain West play as it travels to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to face Air Force on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 9 p.m. MT/8 p.m. PT at Clune Arena.
UNLV (9-6, 3-0) is off to its first 3-0 start to conference play in 20 years and for the first time in its Mountain West history. The Runnin’ Rebels have started their MW season with home wins over Colorado State (78-76) and Wyoming (68-56), along with a road victory at New Mexico (80-69) last Tuesday.
In the win over the Lobos, senior guard Kris Clyburn was just shy of a double-double with a career-high 25 points and nine rebounds.
UNLV has been led in scoring this year by Clyburn, who is averaging 13.3 ppg. Freshman forward Joel Ntambwe is close behind at 12.4 ppg, while sophomore guard Amauri Hardy is third at 11.7 ppg. Senior forward Shakur Juiston, who will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury, averaged 10.8 ppg and 8.8 rpg over eight games played. Among active players, sophomore forward Mbacke Diong is the team’s leading rebounder (6.3 rpg) and he also leads the team in blocks (third in the MW) with 1.7 bpg. Senior guard Noah Robotham is the Runnin’ Rebel assist leader (3.9 apg).
Air Force (6-10, 1-3) is coming off its first MW victory of the season: 62-48 at home over San Diego State on Saturday. The Falcons are led by Lavelle Scottie’s 13.4 ppg and Ryan Swan’s 6.4 rpg.
Wednesday’s game will be televised on ESPNU with Sam Farber and Richie Schueler calling the action. Jon Sandler, former Runnin’ Rebel Robert Smith, and Steve Cofield (sideline reporter) will handle the UNLV radio call, which may be heard live on ESPN Radio 1100 AM and online via the UNLV Gameday App and TuneIn (link at UNLVRebels.com).
