RUNNIN’ REBEL MADNESS TO BE HELD IN DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS ON OCT. 22

Free music-festival style, midnight madness type event that will also include dunk contest to take place at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center next to The D Hotel

The UNLV men’s basketball team will welcome the 2015-16 season with a new event, Runnin’ Rebel Madness, which will be held at the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center next to The D Hotel on Thursday, October 22.

The free music-festival style, midnight madness type event will take place from 7-9 p.m. with doors opening at 6 p.m.

Moving to this new location for the first time, Runnin’ Rebel Madness will be similar to the Runnin’ Rebels’ 2011 event that was called The Runnin’ Rebel Experience and will replace what was dubbed The Runnin’ Rebel Showcase in recent years. A big difference though from the 2011 event will be that UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Center basketball court (Tarkanian Court) will be moved to the events center for the evening’s festivities.

Special videos will debut at Runnin’ Rebel Madness, while each player will have their own unique introduction. The event will also mark the return of a UNLV men’s basketball dunk contest and performances by the Rebel Girls and UNLV Cheer.

Other entertainment is being planned and will be announced as the event draws closer. In addition, fans will be able to get autographs and photos from their favorite players.

“We are really looking forward to this new event in Downtown Las Vegas,” said head coach Dave Rice. “It will be a fun, exciting night, and also a unique opportunity for the community to meet our team and for our guys to interact with our great Runnin’ Rebel fans. Special thanks to The D Hotel and Wendoh Media for their creativity and helping make this event possible.”

The UNLV women’s basketball team will also be in attendance and will be introduced.

For fans that are also interested in seeing more of this year’s Runnin’ Rebel squad on the court, a free public scrimmage is also being planned for Oct. 15 at the Thomas & Mack Center.

A limited number of season tickets in the lower bowl of the Thomas & Mack Center for the 2015-16 UNLV men’s basketball season are on sale now. They may be purchased online at UNLVtickets.com, by calling 702-739-FANS (3267) or in person at the Thomas & Mack Center box office.

Rice is entering his fifth season as head coach of the Runnin’ Rebel program. UNLV returns seven scholarship players from last year’s roster with six newcomers making up another highly regarded recruiting class. After a top-five class in 2014, Rivals has this year’s Runnin’ Rebel class ranked No. 11 in the country.
