ROLAND COLLECTS SECOND STRAIGHT MW FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK NOD
Meadow Roland led the Lady Rebels through two games averaging 14.5 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game
For the second consecutive week, UNLV’s Meadow Roland has been named Mountain West Freshman of the Week, the conference announced today.
The 6-foot-2 redshirt freshman forward led the Lady Rebels coming off the bench averaging 14.5 points per game and 8.0 rebounds per game. She also added three blocks and two steals. Roland helped the Scarlet & Gray go 2-0 for the week collecting wins over Utah State (89-51) and New Mexico (90-65) to remain atop the league standings at 11-1. On the road at Utah State, she was the leading-scorer for UNLV collecting 16 points, one-shy of her career-high, shooting 8-for-9 from the field. She was also tied for the team-lead in rebounds with seven (two offensive, five defensive) and blocked two shots.
The momentum continued for Roland and the Lady Rebels during the home contest against New Mexico. The Fresno, California native, checked into the game at 5:07 in the first quarter and at the end of the first 10 minutes had five points including a three-pointer. She went on to finish tied for the second-leading scorer with 13 points and led the squad in rebounds with nine (one offensive, eight defensive). Roland rounded out the two games, shooting 63.2% (12 of 19) from the field, 33.3% (1 of 3) from the three and 66.7% (4 of 6) from the free throw line.
This marks the third weekly accolade of Roland’s career and the fourth for the Lady Rebels this season.
UNLV remains home for the midweek contest as San Diego State comes to town. The Lady Rebels and Aztecs rematch is set for Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 6:30 p.m.
