UNLV Athletics has announced the return of its “Tickets for Teachers” program for the upcoming 2019-20 Runnin’ Rebel basketball season as a way to say “thank you” to local teachers.
Working with the Clark County School District School-Community Partnership Office, the Tickets for Teachers program aims to provide two UNLV men’s basketball season tickets to every elementary and middle school in the district, which principals can distribute to deserving teachers.
CCSD is the fifth largest school district in the country and has a total of 285 elementary and middle schools.
The NBA and Tomorrow’s Stars Foundation have already committed to providing 100 tickets.
“The NBA Summer League and Tomorrow’s Stars Foundation are proud to support Tickets for Teachers and UNLV men’s basketball,” said Albert Hall, Las Vegas NBA Summer League Co-founder. “We’ve all been positively influenced by teachers in our lives and appreciate the influential impact they have on our communities. This program is another example of Tomorrow’s Stars improving the Las Vegas area.”
“Tickets for Teachers is one way for us to recognize and thank local teachers, who put in so much time, energy, and effort to make our community great,” said UNLV men’s basketball head coach T.J. Otzelberger. “We appreciate the National Basketball Association jumping on board early to help our local educators.”
Additional tickets will be provided through “angel” donations from community members. A school (two tickets) can be sponsored for $240 for the men’s basketball season. Supporters can make their contribution by making a tax-deductible donation to the Rebel Athletic Fund in support of “Tickets for Teachers” following this link. Preferred schools can be recommended by donors, however, the program’s goal is to have all schools sponsored. After the purchase, the ticketing office then facilitates the donation of the tickets to the CCSD’s School-Community Partnership to be distributed to the schools.
“It is always encouraging to see Clark County School District community partners recognize and support the teachers who work so hard every day to ensure our students receive a rich and rigorous education,” said CCSD Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Jara. “The efforts by UNLV and the NBA not only gives principals a way to thank and reward those teachers, but it also gives the teachers the opportunity to have a little fun and support the Runnin’ Rebels as well.”
