The UNLV women’s golf team shot a program and tournament 18-hole record with a 20-under 268 in Monday’s final round to land a second-place finish in the Westbrook Invitational hosted by Wisconsin at Westbrook Village Golf Club (Par 72, 6,248 yards).

HISTORY:
The Rebels’ final-round score topped the team’s former single-round record of 16-under 272 at the 2015 Las Vegas Showdown and the event’s previous 18-hole low of 19-under 269 by Kansas last year.

REBEL ROUNDUP:
The Scarlet & Gray’s entire five-player lineup carded below-par outings on the day, including a pair of team-best 6-under 66 rounds from seniors Toa Yokoyama and McKenzi Hall. Yokoyama’s score matched her single-round career low, Hall had a season-best 18-hole score on her birthday, senior Hina Matsui had a career-low 5-under 67, freshman Amber Chen rounded out the scoring at 3-under 69 and senior Mayumi Umezu shot a 2-under 70.

THE SCARLET & GRAY FIVE:
Leading the way for the Rebel squad with all five individuals placing in the top 25, Yokoyama tied for second with a career-low tournament score of 12-under 204. Behind her, Hall (-6) and Chen (-6) tied for 11th, while Matsui’s career-low tournament score and Umezu’s final tally of 3-under 213 tied them both for 21st.

FINAL LEADERS: In spite of UNLV’s jump from third to second with a season-best 54-hole score at 30-under 834, No. 25 Kansas held on for the team title at 39-under 825. Additionally, the Jayhawks‘ Lauren Clark won individual medalist honors with a 17-under 199 after never relinquishing her day-one lead.

QUOTABLE: “That was a heck of a day by our team. I couldn’t be more proud of the way they closed out this tournament in record fashion for another runner-up finish. And to do it on McKenzi’s birthday made it that much more special today.”
UNLV Head Coach Amy Bush-Herzer

UP NEXT: The Rebels continue their spring slate next week in Fairfax, California, at the Juli Inkster at Meadow Club Invitational being hosted by San Jose State from Monday-Tuesday, March 3-4.
