REBELS WELCOME SIMON FRASER FOR HOME-OPENING MEET

The UNLV men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will welcome Simon Fraser for their home-opening dual meets from Friday-Saturday at Jim Reitz Pool.

LAST TIME OUT: On the men’s side, the Rebels came away with nine top-3 finishes in their season-opener against the defending national champion Arizona State, which included victories by Alejandro Vazquez (1-meter and 3-meter) and Daniel Nicusan (100 breast). The Scarlet & Gray women added seven top-3 finishes with a 1-meter springboard victory by senior Vika Yanovska.

UNLV INDIVIDUALS AMONG THE NATION’S BEST: The Rebels have several individual marks that rank among the top-25 fastest on the NCAA top-times chart this season. Headlining the group is Nicusan at fifth in the 100 breast (52.22) and 12th in the 200 IM (1:46.94), sophomore Wikus Potgieter at 23rd in 100 fly (47.50) along with senior Adnan Beji at 20th in 100 breast (53.68). Rounding out the group is junior Ian Belflower at 20th in 200 fly (1:46.69), sophomore Colby Raffel at 24th in 200 fly (1:47.20) and sophomore Ava Olson at 22nd in 1000 free (10:01.77).

REBEL RELAYS ON NCAA TOP-TIMES LISTS: Along with their individual national rankings, the Rebels have two relay times that sit among the NCAA top-25 marks on the year. Among those are the UNLV men’s 200 medley relay squad at 20th (1:27.84) and the women’s 400 free relay team at 17th (3:23.47).

REBELS IN THE NATIONAL POLLS: UNLV men’s swimming and diving appeared among the teams receiving votes in the 2024 Preseason College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division I Top-25 poll. Out of 30 teams that received votes, the Rebel men’s squad ranks 26th on that list with 12 points.
