The UNLV volleyball program announced its 2024 schedule on Tuesday. The season’s full slate is now complete as the Mountain West announced the conference portion in March.
The Rebels will play in 11 nonconference matches with six of those contests taking place on their home court in Cox Pavilion and five on the road. Their nonconference stretch under second-year head coach Malia Shoji will take place from Aug. 30 through Sept. 21.
One of the highlights of the nonconference schedule will be when UNLV hosts perennial power Hawaii on Sept. 17. The contest will mark the first meeting between the two programs since 2003 and the first time the Rainbow Wāhine visit Las Vegas since 1997. Hawaii ended the 2023 season receiving votes in the AVCA Top 25 poll and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The match will also duel as the team’s annual Polynesian Night.
The Scarlet & Gray will face a Top 25 opponent from last season in its final event of the nonconference season as it will face USC in the Trojans’ tournament in Los Angeles, taking place Sept. 20-21. USC reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season and finished the year ranked No. 23 in the country. It will mark the first meeting for the two programs since 1999. UNLV will also face UC San Diego and LMU in that event.
UNLV will begin the season by hosting two tournaments in Cox Pavilion, the first Aug. 30-Sept. 1 and the second on Sept. 12–14. BigTen opponent Northwestern is a part of the season-opening event that also includes Iowa State and Pacific.
The Rebels’ second match of the season will be against another strong opponent in Iowa State, as the Cyclones ended the 2023 season receiving AVCA Top 25 votes and also appeared in the NCAA Tournament.
The Rebels’ second home tournament will feature two matches for UNLV in a three-day span, taking on Cal Poly SLO and North Texas.
