The UNLV track & field team will compete in their first outdoor meet of the 2024-25 season this upcoming weekend, traveling to UCLA for two days of competition on Friday, March 21 and Saturday, March 22.

The Bruins have split the weekend to two different home meets, Friday being labeled as the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival and Saturday being marked as the Jim Bush Legends Meet. The first day is set to start at 3 p.m. PT while the second day kicks off earlier at a little after 11 a.m. PT.

The first day of competition, the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival, will hold two field events and four more on the track. The women’s hammer throw will start the weekend alongside the women’s javelin. The track events will consist of the steeplechase, 5000m, 10k and the 1500m ELITE.

The Jim Bush Legends schedule will start several field events before the track races commence, the women’s high jump, discus, shot put, long jump and triple jump all starting before 3 p.m. PT. The day will hold two relays as the first and final events of the meet, the former being the 4x100m relay and the latter being the 4x400m relay. Student-athletes not in the 1500m ELITE the day prior will compete in the main event’s session on Saturday, other track events taking place that day are the 100m and 400m hurdles, 100m, 200m and 800m.

The Rebels will compete at Drake Stadium for the first time under head coach Carmelita Jeter, the meet also standing as the Rebels’ first trip to California this season. The Scarlet & Gray made an appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships last season in the 4x100m relay and was awarded a USTFCCCA All-America Honorable Mention honor. The team also crowned two Mountain West champions in the spring of 2024, Grace Cunningham picking up the gold in the high jump and Kennedi Porter sprinting her way to a win in the women’s 200m.

Fans who want to follow along this weekend can also get live updates on how the Scarlet & Gray are faring on the team’s X (formerly known as Twitter) and Instagram accounts. Rebels who want to follow the livestats directly can find them on the team’s schedule page, located here.
