The UNLV women’s cross country team will open the 2023 season this Saturday, Aug. 31 at the George Kyte Classic, which is being held at Buffalo Park in Flagstaff, Ariz.
The women will be the second race of the day at 2:30 p.m., the race being a 2.5 mile that takes one and a half laps around the course. The race prior will be the men’s 4.5 mile run at 1:30 p.m.
UNLV will send seven student-athletes on the trip, including three returners from the 2023 season. Among those three are two juniors (Nicole Boskovich, Aine McDade) and one sophomore (Alana Sangprasit), Sangprasit earned a Mountain West Freshman of the Week honors last season after picking up a 90-second personal record time at the Bronco Invitational.
The Rebels, who are in their second season under head coach Carmelita Jeter and Assistant Coach Adam Meyer, will look to build on the success from last season after Natalia Ruiz became the first All-Mountain West runner since 2008.
The Scarlet & Gray introduced five new Rebels to their roster in 2024, three of them being locals to Las Vegas in BreannaBlanks, Sophia Legat and Leah Okuda. The team picked up one more student-athlete from the neighboring state to the west in Eva Walker while also continuing their international presence by adding Claire Rands from Ontario, Canada.
Saturday’s race will be the first of three regular-season meets before the Mountain West Championships on Friday, Nov. 1 in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Rebels will compete once per month during the regular season. The full season schedule can be found here.
UNLV was selected tenth in the Mountain West Women’s Cross Country Preseason Poll on Wednesday, finishing ahead of San Jose State.
