Taking last weekend off of competing after hosting their first home meet since 2021, the UNLV track & field team gears up for the home stretch of the 2024 outdoor season with a trip to Walnut, Calif. later this week. The team will participate in the Mt. SAC Relays competition, hosted by Mt. San Antonio College.
The meet will stretch across four days overall, but the Rebels will only compete in three of the days. They’ll kick off on Thursday, April 18 with one event, Emili Osula Liis taking off in the women’s javelin at 10 a.m. PT. The Rebels will also only partake in one event on the final day (Saturday, April 20), running in the women’s 4x100m ELITE relay at 12:15 p.m.
The bulk of the team’s weekend will take place on Friday, April 19, the Scarlet & Gray being represented in nine different events between the track and the field. The day is set to start at 11 a.m., Camryn Harris competing in the women’s long jump. Running events will start shortly after at 11:25 a.m., Jaydea Carter and Delaysia Allen being featured in the women’s 100m hurdles. The final event will take place at approximately 3:05 p.m., the women’s 200m showcasing the talents of Sophia Alexander, Shakeira Bowra, Kaeling Gowdy, Jana Lakner, AnnaKay Maitland, Chinyere Okoro, Kennedi Porter and Endya Scott. Other events that will take place on the day include discus, high jump, shot put, 400m, 100m and 400m hurdles.
UNLV will look to continue the momentum they had two weeks ago in their UNLV Rebels ELITE meet, topping the event out of the seven teams invited to the meet. Crowning champions in five different events over the two days, Kennedi Porter ran away with the Mountain West Track Athlete of the Week honor with two of those wins and three personal-best times. The honor marked the third weekly honor the team has picked up this season, Okoro picking up the Track Athlete of the Week award and Gowdy being honored with a Freshman of the Week note.
