REBELS RUN TO GOLDEN STATE FOR NCAA WEST REGIONALS

The UNLV track & field program will be represented by four student-athletes at the 2023 NCAA D1 Outdoor Track & Field West Regionals this week. The four-day meet will run Wednesday through Saturday and will be contested at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, California.
Junior Deisiane Teixeira will kick things off for the Rebels Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. with the women’s javelin throw. Teixeira secured her spot in the event after posting a program record mark of 55.65m at the Texas Relays back in March.
The Scarlet & Gray will be represented by sophomore Rosa Santana and graduate student Cassidy Osborne-Butler in the women’s shot put event set for Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. Santana punched her ticket to the regional meet at the Triton Invitational with a program record mark of 18.39m (60-04.00) and Osborne-Butler secured her spot after throwing a mark of 16.24m (53-03.50) at the Long Beach Invitational.
Senior Alia Scott will close out day one for the Rebels with the women’s 400m hurdles slated for 8:20 p.m. Scott qualified for regionals after running a career-best time of 59.13 at the conference championship meet. The top 24 times from the first round will advance to quarterfinals set for Saturday at 7:25 p.m.
Regional selections are based on the athlete’s best time all season. Student-athletes with the top 48 marks in each event of each region qualify for the preliminary round of the Track & Field National Championship.
The top 12 marks for each event will advance to the National Championship set for Wednesday, June 7 through Saturday, June 10 in Austin, Texas.
