UNLV begins three-game series at Colorado State on Friday
The Rebels hope to sour Colorado State’s celebration when they visit a newly-renovated Ram Field for a three-game softball series this weekend in Fort Collins, Colorado.
UNLV (15-16 overall, 1-6 Mountain West) visits Colorado State (17-9, 3-2) for its third of eight conference series that will decide Mountain West Championship tournament seeding.
Friday’s opener begins at 3 p.m. PT (4 p.m. local). Saturday, the Rebels take the field at 5 p.m. for the Rams’ first-ever night game at Ram Field. Sunday’s finale starts at 12 p.m.
All games will be streamed live on the Mountain West Network.
Series History
Colorado State leads the all-time series 51-44 and has a 25-19 advantage in Fort Collins. UNLV has claimed the last two series against the Rams.
Hot Plate
Maddie Schmidt is 10-for-16 (.625) with a .714 on-base percentage (5 runs, 31 TB, 4 BB, 1 K, 1 HBP) when she makes the first plate appearance of the game for the Rebels. She was 0-for-9 with one walk in her first at-bats when not leading off.
Desert Shield
UNLV ranks 20th nationally and leads all Mountain West teams in fielding percentage (.976). The Rebels have committed just 21 errors in 852 opportunities.
UNLV has ranked first or second in MW fielding percentage since head coach Kristie Fox debuted in the 2018 season.
Battery Tester
Last year, UNLV’s Jenny Bressler and SDSU’s Maggie Balint won 13 of the 14 Mountain West Pitcher of the Week awards. Through six weeks in 2023, no individual has repeated as the conference’s pitcher of the week.
UNLV and San Diego State are the only teams with two pitchers of the week. Jessie Fontes won in week two while Jasmine Martin was selected for the honor in week three.
Looking Ahead
UNLV hosts Fresno State for the Thursday-through-Saturday Easter weekend three-game series at Eller Media Stadium in Las Vegas. Friday’s game will be televised locally on the Silver State Sports and Entertainment Network (KVVU 5.2, Cox 125).
