The UNLV women’s cross country team continued the postseason with the 2024 NCAA West Regional Championships on Friday, racing at the Colfax Golf Club course. The Rebels took five student-athletes to the meet, consisting of three freshmen, a sophomore and a junior.

Freshman Claire Rands led the charge for the Scarlet & Gray in the race, crossing the finish line first on a 23:18.7 final time. The time marked a postseason best for the Canadian newcomer, topping her time just two weeks ago at the Mountain West Championships by over a minute. Rands’ race also came home strong in the final 1k, moving up three places in the stretch.

Her freshman teammate Breanna Blanks would be the next Rebel to finish the course, ending the race on a 23:41.6 final time. Finishing four places behind her at a 23:47.8 time was junior Abigail Danlag, right at her top time this season in the 6k race from the Bronco Invitational.

Alana Sangprasit ended the race with her fastest time in the 6k race during the 2024 season, touching the finish at a 24:16.7 final time. That mark lowered her season time by almost 30 seconds, previously racing a 24:43.4 time at the Bronco Invitational. Sophia Legat rounded out the lineup with a 24:37.2 final time.

The Rebels will look to gear up for the track & field indoor season, the program’s first race taking place at the Lumberjack Team Challenge on Friday, January 17. To stay updated on all things UNLV cross country, follow its Twitter / X and Instagram social media accounts.
