REBELS PEN TWO SIGNEES FOR 2025
Nico Bencomo and Javier Santolaya will join UNLV next fall
The UNLV men’s golf program has received signed commitments from Nico Bencomo and Javier Santolaya to join the Rebels for the 2025-26 season, head coach Jean-Paul Hebert announced Friday.
“We are really excited to add these two to the Rebel golf family,” said Hebert. “We’re talking about two very hard-working and talented players that each bring a lot of tournament experience. We can’t wait for them to join our squad next fall.”
Originally from Venezuela, Bencomo attends Cardinal Mooney High School in Sarasota, Florida, where he has tied for second at the state championship and won district championship medalist honors in his career. Among his amateur and junior event highlights, he was the 2023 FJT Florida State University 54-Hole Major runner-up, tied for eighth in the AJGA’s 2024 K.J. Choi Foundation Texas Junior Championship and tied for ninth at the 2024 Florida State Golf Association Amateur Championship.
“Nico has an all-around game that has continued to develop, and he has proven to compete nationally for several years now. As a Floridian, he’s conditioned to travel and play well across the country,” Hebert said.
A native of Vitacura, Chile, Santolaya has earned four Chilean Golf Federation wins, including the La Dehesa Open Boys Youth and Junior International Open titles this year. On the international stage, he has competed at the IMG Academy Junior World Championship each of the past two years, finishing in a tie for eighth at Torrey Pines Golf Course in 2023, and posted a fourth-place finish at the 2023 South American Youth Championship.
“Javier comes from a little further away. He is one of the most dedicated players I’ve ever seen and one that will only get better. He will have a major impact on the success of our program,” said Hebert.
