After setting a new school record last weekend and picking up several other best times, the UNLV track & field team set off for Lubbock, Texas for their next upcoming meet. The Scarlet & Gray will compete in the Jarvis Scott Open this weekend, the meet taking place from Friday, Feb. 9 through Saturday, Feb. 10.

The Rebels will send 21 student-athletes from their roster on the weekend trip, events kicking off at 1 p.m. PT on Friday with the women’s weight throw. They’ll continuously run through other field events in different sections, including events such as long jump and pole vault on the first day. The running events will start with the first of three rounds in the 60m and 60m hurdles, listed with a 3 p.m. PT start time. The top-eight participants in each event will advance to the preliminary round and then the finals will take place later that night. Day one will also include the 400m, 800m and 5000m events.

Day two on Saturday kicks off earlier with the women’s shot put at 8 a.m. PT, the other field events to cap the meet include the triple jump, high jump and other sections of the pole vault. The running events will start around 9 a.m. PT with the women’s 200m. Six other events on the track will take place after, consisting of the 1000m, 600 yards, mile, 200m, 3000m and the 4x400m relay.

UNLV recently found success last weekend in the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, junior Natalia Ruiz tearing down a 25-year-old school record in the women’s mile that was originally set in 1999. Her performance also resulted in a new personal record, one of several achieved by the program throughout the two-day meet. Also earning career milestones over the weekend were Isabella Schrader, Shakeira Bowra, Delaysia Allen, Kennedi Porter, Jaydea Carter, Kaelin Gowdy, Grace Cunningham and Camryn Harris.
