Primus and the Chocolate Factory with The Fungi Ensemble with special guest Clutch will transform The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino into an imagination wonderland on Friday, September 4. Tickets are on sale Friday, May 15 at 10 a.m.

The Grammy-nominated experimental rock group consists of Primus’ reunited lineup, Les Claypool (vocals and bass), Larry LaLonde (guitar) and Tim Alexander (drums). In the summer of 1971, Claypool was a couple months shy of his eighth birthday when David L. Wolper’s Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory debuted in movie theaters. Like many people of a certain age and temperament, the movie became a perennial favorite that he would come back to repeatedly throughout different stages of his life.

Claypool’s love for the story, its creativity and soundtrack inspired him to host a Willy Wonka-themed Primus concert on New Year’s Eve in 2013, and the band hasn’t looked back. The group took to the studio to produce their next album, Primus and the Chocolate Factory with The Fungi Ensemble, which was released October 21, 2014, and is now touring its imaginative production throughout the U.S. and Europe.

“The whole thing just unfolded,” says Claypool, who produced the album himself. “It was a very easy and pleasant project. It wasn’t like we sat and scratched our heads… every song was all wrapped around how I would interpret the vocals, for the most part, because that was the most challenging thing.”

Maryland heavy rockers, Clutch, are also known for their inventive, boundary-pushing music. The group’s music has achieved notable ranks on the iTunes and Billboard charts, and their album Earth Rocker was awarded “Album of The Year” in 2013 by Metal Hammer magazine and garnered a Top 10 spot on Rolling Stone’s “20 Best Metal Albums of 2013.”

Tickets start at $42.50 (plus applicable service fees) and go on sale Friday, May 15 at 10 a.m. at the Hard Rock Hotel box office, by calling 888.9.AXS.TIX or online at www.axs.com.
