About Paquita la del Barrio
Singer, songwriter, and actress Paquita la del Barrio (born Francisca Viveros Barradas) became a celebrity after she decided to move from her native Veracruz to Mexico City in 1970. Her live performance, mainly based on feminist songs with lyrics that are aggressive toward macho attitudes, seduced followers from all around the country. She was nominated for a GRAMMY® in 2013 for Best Regional Mexican Music Album, but even when her first records didn’t achieve a top-selling status, Paquita la del Barrio became one of the most interesting local personalities in Mexico. La del Barrio received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Billboard Latin Music Awards in 2021.
About Marisela
Platinum blonde Latin pop sensation Marisela continues to be an icon nearly four decades after her debut, living up to her reputation as the Latin Madonna with racy performances and her signature girly vocal style. The Los Angeles native was a founding cast member of Villa Alegre, a pioneering and award-winning bilingual PBS children’s program that debuted in 1973. “Ya No,” her club-ready 1990 remake of Barbara George’s “I Know (You Don’t Love Me No More),” reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Songs chart. Since the mid-’90s, she’s collaborated in the studio with such ranchera and mariachi artists as Vikki Carr, Joan Sebastian, and Guardianes del Amor. Marisela’s compilation album 20 Éxitos Inmortales hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Albums chart in 1999. In 2019, she recorded “Despacito / Pa Que Volver,” a medley of Laura Canales’ hits honoring the Queen of the Tejano Wave, whose career served as an inspiration for Marisela’s.
