Palms Casino Resort Brings Famed Chef Tony Hu’s Lao Sze Chuan to
Las Vegas, Opening in August
Re-imagined Popular Chicago-Based Restaurant Features Authentic Chinese Cuisine
Palms Casino Resort introduces Lao Sze Chuan, an authentic Chinese Sze Chuan cuisine restaurant by renowned Chicago chef, Tony Hu, opening in late August. Honored with the MICHELIN Guide “Bib Gourmand” distinction for two consecutive years, Lao Sze Chuan is one of 16 restaurants owned by Hu. Lao Sze Chuan at Palms is the seventh location of the popular Chicago-based restaurant and Hu’s first Las Vegas venture. Lao Sze Chuan offers a robust menu of Sze Chuan cuisine and a selection of popular Mandarin, Cantonese, Hunan and Shanghai dishes made especially for the Palms location, featuring the standout quality and remarkable flavor guests have come to expect from the restaurant.
“At Palms we’re continuing to evolve, creating exceptional experiences throughout the property to match our guests’ diverse interests and tastes,” said Alexander Schnoeller, Vice President of Food and Beverage at Palms Casino Resort. “We’re honored to welcome Tony Hu and his celebrated cuisine to the property with the opening of Lao Sze Chuan.”
Known in the culinary world as Chicago’s “mayor of Chinatown,” Hu shaped Lao Sze Chuan into one of the nation’s most beloved Chinese restaurants with a solid reputation for providing traditional Sze Chuan cuisine with high quality ingredients. Taking frequent visits to China to research culinary trends, Hu continuously modifies the menu to reflect the latest in Chinese cuisine and a range of options designed for those who appreciate true Chinese flavor. Hu’s dedication to providing genuine Asian fare is found in each of his restaurants, particularly Lao Sze Chuan, with Lao symbolizing old, traditional and authentic in Mandarin, and Sze Chuan naming the province from which the spicy cuisine originates.
Lao Sze Chuan at Palms is a reinvention of Hu’s popular restaurant enhanced with a range of new menu options and a vibrant atmosphere. The menu features more than 200 beef, chicken, pork and seafood options, along with a variety of soups, dim sum and will focus on traditional hot pots. In addition to traditional Sze Chuan dishes and a “best of” selection of cuisine from other Asian influences, Hu’s menu offers popular dishes adapted to American tastes. The expert staff at Lao Sze Chuan will frequently contribute new ideas and inventive entrees for the restaurant to offer a new experience for guests each time they visit.
“Las Vegas is home to restaurants by the top chefs in the world, so when selecting the next location of Lao Sze Chuan, I wanted to partner with a progressive property that would inspire creativity in my new dishes,” said Tony Hu, Founder and Executive Chef of Lao Sze Chuan. “I’m excited to be part of the outstanding culinary environment at Palms and confident that guests will love the new menu.”
The Palms location will feature several new menu items including the Sze Chaun Peppercorn Fish. In addition to new dishes, Lao Sze Chuan serves signature entrees from the Chicago locations like Tony’s Chicken with Three Chili, a spicy favorite famous at his restaurants.
Along with a delicious menu, Lao Sze Chuan features a stylish, and open design unique to Las Vegas. The 150-seat restaurant is draped with various textiles, vibrant décor, high ceilings, chandeliers and traditional Chinese elements. Metallic gold and bold red accents highlight the casual venue, with eye-catching ceramic sculptures and culturally-inspired artwork adorning the space. Soon after opening, guests can also enjoy their meal in a lively outdoor environment on the spacious patio overlooking Palms Pool.
Lao Sze Chuan, located on the east end of the casino, opens daily, Sunday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. until 12 a.m. and Friday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 2 a.m. The restaurant serves dim sum from 11:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. daily. For additional information, visit www.palms.com.
