NV Energy Foundation Gift of $20,000 Creates
The Imagine Room
Outdated Computer Lab Transformed into State-of-the-art Computer Training Room
A generous gift of $20,000 by the NV Energy Foundation has transformed an outdated computer lab in Goodwill of Southern Nevada’s North Las Vegas Cheyenne campus into a state-of-the-art computer training room, now called “The Imagine Room”.
Complete with new laptop computers with wireless Internet, a SMART board and projector to allow for interactive instruction, and new modular furniture providing versatility and adaptability for various workshops, the remodeled Imagine Room will serve more than 750 unemployed or under employed Southern Nevadans a year.
“This remodeled computer training lab will provide the flexibility and technology needed to assist job seekers ranging from youth with disabilities, to veterans seeking employment, to adults who have been out of the workforce for years,” said Goodwill of Southern Nevada President & CEO Steve Chartrand. “Imagine the difference this Imagine Room will make in their lives. We can’t thank NV Energy Foundation enough for this incredible gift.”
Before the remodel, Goodwill’s computer lab was more than eight years old, consisting of outdated desktops on stationary furniture that was bolted to the floor. The fixed set up limited instructor creativity and the types of workshops that the room could be used for.
Goodwill’s Imagine Room will house no-cost workshops for job seekers such as Resume Playbook, Seal the Deal, Networking Basic, First Impressions and Financial Literacy. In 2013, Goodwill of Southern Nevada helped more than 2,000 Southern Nevadans find employment at a variety of businesses.
