Nine members of the UNLV swimming and diving program, five from the women’s team and four men, have earned College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America honors, the organization announced Thursday. The nine Rebel honorees are the most named to the list for the program since 2013.
Reece Hemmens – who made the team for the second straight year – and first-time honoree George Ratiu received First-Team Scholar All-America selections to headline the Rebel men’s quartet recognized on the list. Adnan Beji (Second team) and Jack Binder (Second Team) topped off that group as first-time honorees.
The Rebel women were led by Kate Afanasyeva (Second Team), Kristina Schneider (Second Team) and Calysta Bartlett (Second Team), each of whom earned the recognition for the second time in their careers. Rounding out the Scarlet and Gray’s women’s list as first-time selections were Tosia Iwanowska (Second Team) and Gabby Lizzul (Second Team).
To be selected to the CSCAA Scholar All-America First Team, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Second-Team selections also earned a 3.5 GPA or higher and achieved a “B” time standard for the national championship or participated at a diving zone qualification meet.
