Male and Female Winners Advance to Coney Island July 4
WHAT: It’s that time again for the region’s finest competitive eaters to tie on their bibs and get their appetites ready as New York-New York Hotel & Casino hosts its 16th annual qualifying event for the highly anticipated 98th Annual Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, N.Y.
The male and female winners of the 3 p.m. main event on Saturday, April 20 will be crowned “Nevada Hot Dog Eating Champions” and will earn the right to represent Las Vegas in the July 4th finals. A special employee contest along with a “Heroes” competition for charity will begin at 1 p.m.
In addition to Las Vegas, regional qualifying competitions also will take place in several cities around the U.S. and Canada.
The Nathan’s Famous International Hot Dog Eating Contest has occurred every July 4th in Coney Island since 1916, the year Nathan Handwerker opened the legendary restaurant.
Major League Eating, the governing body of all stomach-centric sports, sanctions the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Circuit and ensures the contests are judged professionally and that safety standards are in place at each event.
