National Night Out Block Party at Providence combines fun, education
to promote community safety, partnership
Free family event is Aug. 4
The National Night Out Block Party at Providence combines fun and education for the public to meet and strengthen relationships with law enforcement and community safety partners. The free event, promoting crime prevention awareness, neighborhood spirit and unity, and community-law enforcement partnerships, will be Tuesday, Aug. 4 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Knickerbocker Park in the Providence Master Planned Community in northwest Las Vegas.
The family-friendly event will feature interactive and educational activities, booths and emergency response equipment, including a helicopter for kids to see, touch and explore. Participants include the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, Nevada Highway Patrol, and other first responders and community groups.
There also will be a large-scale version of the classic Red Light-Green Light game with a real traffic light. It will help children learn the basics of traffic safety in a fun way as they make their way to the finish line.
Target is providing free popsicles and water, and other treats will be available for sale. P.D., the loveable Providence dog mascot, also will there to greet guests. Well-behaved leashed pets are welcome.
Knickerbocker Park amenities include tot lots, swing set, small and large dog areas, splash pad, jogging path with exercise stations, picnic areas, and a softball field and multi-use event field for soccer and volleyball, available on a first-come, first-serve basis. The 15-acre park is located at 10695 Dorrell Lane, north of the I-215 Beltway and Hualapai Way exit.
The annual National Night Out Block Party at Providence is one of largest events of its kind in the northwest area. It is presented by the Providence Master Homeowners Association and Providence Master Planned Community. For information, call 702-216-2020.
