UNLV men’s basketball senior EJ Harkless has earned All-Mountain West recognition as the league and its media announced their all-conference awards this week.
The MW’s 11 head coaches voted on the league’s awards, while the media’s were conducted independent of conference oversight.
Harkless, a 6-foot-3-inch guard from San Bernardino, California, who came to the Runnin’ Rebel program from Oklahoma as a graduate transfer prior to this season, led his team in scoring with an average of 20.7 ppg (conference-only games), ranking second in the league, and in rebounding with 5.4 rpg. He shot 43.1 percent from the field (118 of 274) and 80.5% on free throws (107 of 133, 10th in MW). In addition, he recorded 3.2 assists per game and 1.6 steals per contest (3rd in MW).
He started all 18 conference games for UNLV, scored in double figures in all but one and has a current streak of 12 straight games. He scored 20 or more on 10 occasions including each of the last three outings. His two 33-point scoring games this season (vs. Colorado State and at Wyoming) each rank tied for the second-most points scored in a MW conference game this season.
