Multimillion-Dollar Revitalization to Take Place at The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara Beginning January 2025

Almost every aspect of the resort will be updated in the most extensive transformation since Bacara’s inception.

The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara–the premier luxury Southern California resort, is embarking on an ambitious revitalization project to elevate the guest experience further. The revitalization is projected from January to May 2025, and the doors will remain open as nearly every facet of the resort will be renovated. All rooms and suites will receive updated finishes and furnishings, and the pool experience will be transformed with all new furnishings and private cabanas. In addition, all culinary experiences will be refreshed, and new concepts and menus will be introduced.

“2025 is The Ritz-Carlton Bacara’s 25th anniversary, the perfect time to celebrate this cherished property and infuse it with a new vibrancy and beauty,”  shares Bradley Cance, General Manager, “This new design will provide an effortless elegance that will make your shoulders relax and your brows soften when you enter this magical spot on the California Riviera. We’ll continue to provide the same exceptional service, warm hospitality, and attention to detail that makes our resort not just special – but extraordinary.”

A new energy and ethos will be infused into the property – an organic design to create a peaceful sanctuary that will pay homage to the region’s historic, relaxed, and elegant Hacienda style. The design will genuinely convey the story of this unique Village on the Bluff, highlighting the spectacular oceanfront landscape along natural cliffs and the sea.

Key Revitalization Points Include:

Honoring the Chumash People and Historic Californios

The Chumash people, the original stewards of this land, have inspired several design elements throughout the resort. Guests will experience subtle references to Chumash art and culture, including custom-designed textiles, native flora, and evocative interior details that reflect the area’s indigenous roots. In addition, the resort honors the historic Californios, early Spanish settlers who helped shape the region’s unique cultural blend. A series of art installations and exhibits pay tribute to the artistry, craftsmanship, and history of the Californios, enriching the guest experience with a deeper connection to the local heritage.

A Celebration of Coastal Elegance

The resort’s updated design seamlessly incorporates the elegance of its coastal setting, with expansive views of the Pacific Ocean from every room and common area. The renovation introduces light-filled spaces with organic textures, soft earth tones, and natural materials like reclaimed wood and stone, designed to reflect the tranquil beauty of the Santa Barbara coastline. Balancing comfort with sophistication, the resort is a modern tribute to coastal elegance—inviting guests to relax and unwind amid stunning surroundings.

Bluffs on the Beach: A Perfect Harmony of Nature and Design

The resort’s unique location atop the scenic bluffs offers unparalleled views of the shoreline and beach below. Guests can now enjoy this iconic vantage point from the new, expansive outdoor terrace and updated pool deck, designed to capture the essence of Santa Barbara’s coastal lifestyle. Inspired by the natural landscape, the outdoor spaces incorporate sustainable landscaping with native plants, reflecting the region’s commitment to environmental preservation.

The Future of Santa Barbara’s Hospitality

With this thoughtful renovation, The Ritz-Carlton Bacara, Santa Barbara aims to set a new standard for luxury hospitality in Santa Barbara—one that deeply respects the region’s past, celebrates its natural beauty, and offers guests a refined yet approachable coastal experience.
