TAKE TWO IN SAN DIEGO
UNLV men’s soccer faces SDSU, UCSD in weekend road trip
UNLV men’s soccer may test extremes as they visit San Diego, Calif., for a two-game road trip this weekend.
The Rebels (0-1-2) face San Diego State (0-3-1) Friday, Sept. 9, and then UC San Diego (3-0-1) Sunday, Sept. 11. Both games kick off at 7 p.m.
The outer bands of Hurricane Kay are forecasted to move extreme heat, sustained winds of 20 to 30 mph and rainfall into southwestern California by Friday evening. Due to the weather, the game versus SDSU may not be streamed live.
SDSU most recently tied then-No. 7 Crieghton, 2-2, in Omaha, Neb., on Monday, Sept. 5. UCSD recently played to a 1-1 stalemate with Cal on its home turf and has a visit from No. 6 Denver on Friday ahead of its matchup with UNLV.
The Rebels have drawn scoreless with then-No. 22 Santa Clara and then-No. 24 LMU on the road before suffering an 80th-minute defeat to CSUN, 2-1, in UNLV’s home opener Sunday.
Clean Sheets
UNLV junior goalkeeper Andrew Sway has made the most of his first collegiate action. Sway opened the season with two clean sheets and leads all Western Athletic Conference players in shutouts (two) and goals against average (.670) through three games. His .800 save percentage is second-best among the league’s players.
Next Home Game / Free Tailgate
UNLV returns home on Thursday, Sept. 15, as the men’s and women’s soccer teams host a doubleheader at Peter Johann Memorial Field. The UNLV women will face Cal at 6:30 p.m. and the men play Pacific at approximately 8:30 p.m. The UNLV Rebel Soccer Foundation will host a free tailgate for all fans in attendance.
Huge Commitment
The UNLV Rebel Soccer Foundation pledge a donation of $125,000 to the UNLV men’s and women’s soccer teams over the next three years, UNLV Athletics announced on Sept. 7. The funds provide additional support above and beyond the core budgets to improve the student-athlete experience.
