Malfunkshun are often credited – or blamed – for helping to start the whole Seattle grunge movement, although they weren’t a grunge band. The band was the first to put singer Andrew Wood into the spotlight. Andrew would later go on to front Mother Love Bone, a band that found a bit of notoriety after Wood’s tragic heroin overdose. Stone Gossard and Jeff Ahment would later form the band Pearl Jam, of course.
In May vocalist Tony West from Blacklist Union joined guitarist Kevin Wood, Miles Freeborn and Frank Scimeca to reform and revive the legend of MALFUNKSHUN. The band is currntly working on new material for an upcoming release and playing shows on the west coast.

MALFUNKSHUN BIOGRAPHY
Tony West – Lead vocals
Kevin Wood – Guitars
Frank Scimeca – Bass
Miles Freeborn – Drums

Malfunkshun, founded by Kevin Wood, and his late brother Andrew Wood (Mother Love Bone), laid the foundation for the Seattle music scene that changed rock ‘n’ roll history. Over the years Kevin Wood’s band continued playing under various names. In 2008, recording as From The North, Wood released the Monument CD, consisting of new musical compositions incorporating unpublished lyrics by his late brother Andrew Wood. In 2009 Kevin decided to reclaim the band’s original name of Malfunkshun. The band’s live shows must be experienced in person to witness the vortex of life force released – A harvest of seeds planted a lifetime ago.
Kevin Wood is known for his signature style of playing. Called the ‘guitar ninja’ because when you watch him play his fingers are a blur as he rapidly works the fret board of his guitar. He continues to compose music that takes rock to its edge.
Tony West, of Blacklist Union acclaim, whose voice in a recent interview was referred to as a blend between Ozzy and Steven Tyler, keeps the Malfunkshun sound and character with his vocals and quintessential rock stage performance.
Frank Scimeca, originally from Philadelphia, moved to Hollywood in the 80’s and formed the band Angora. He has played bass with various LA based bands and brings his fluid, and steady, low end to the mix.
Miles Freeborn lives in Seattle and has drummed for Malfunkshun over the past 5 years. The youngest member of the group Miles brings his hard-hitting Seattle flair to the band.
A new EP, including a remake of the classic Mother Love Bone tune Shangrila, plus new Malfunkshun songs, is due out late 2014.
