La Rocque is the only Mountain West coach on the list and one of two coaches on the West Coast
UNLV Head Women’s Basketball coach Lindy La Rocque has been named one of five finalists for the 2024 Kathy Delaney-Smith Mid-Major Coach of the Year presented by Her Hoop Stats, the organization announced Thursday morning. This is the inaugural season of the award, and the award is named after the legendary former Harvard head coach.
La Rocque who is in her fourth season at the helm of the Lady Rebels program with an overall record of 99-21. La Rocque and the Lady Rebels just earned their third straight Mountain West Regular season title for the first time in program history and the first time in conference history since Colorado State completed a four-peat from 2014-17. This season, UNLV picked up two Power-5 wins over Arizona and Oklahoma and have been in the Associated Press Top-25 and/or USA Today Coaches Top-25 six times this season, which is the first time since 1992-93 when the Lady Rebels were in the polls seven times.
In the past three seasons, La Rocque is a two-time MW Coach of the Year recipient, including the 2023 MW Coach of the Year after guiding the Lady Rebels to a program-record 31 wins during the 2022-23 season and repeated as Mountain West tournament champions. UNLV appeared in consecutive NCAA Championships for the first time since going to three straight from 1989 to 1991.
La Rocque and the Lady Rebels just finished the regular season with a huge 104-44 victory over Utah State in the regular season finale and now have their eyes set on the MW Tournament. UNLV will have a first-round bye and face No. 8 Air Force or No. 9 Fresno State on Monday, March 11 at 12 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center.
