Lena Prima, the youngest daughter of music legend Louis Prima, will bring her musical celebration “Old Vegas & New Orleans!” to the Suncoast Showroom Aug. 20.
“Old Vegas & New Orleans!” honors Lena Prima’s musical roots, with a set list that includes her own songs and ballads; jazz and New Orleans classics; and her father’s timeless hits.
Born in Las Vegas to the famous singer-songwriter and classically trained singer Gia Maione Prima, Lena Prima grew up on stage singing, dancing and touring with her parents during her summer vacations. She graduated from Clark High School in Las Vegas and continued her education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where she studied art, music and dance. Singing became her full-time career in 1991 when she began touring with two bands.
In 2000, she began a two-year engagement of “Louis Prima, That’s My Dad!” at the Sahara Hotel and Casino where her father performed in the early 1950s. With five albums to her name, Lena Prima has performed on stages throughout the country and was praised by the Chicago Tribune, “A standing ovation…Lena has the panache of her father.”
An avid supporter of Italian-American causes, she recently served as the Grand Marshal of the St. Joseph’s Day Italian Parade in New Orleans and has headlined more than 50 Italian-American festivals around the country.
Showtime is 8:30 p.m. Tickets are available starting from $15.95, plus tax and convenience fees, and can be purchased at any Boyd Gaming Box Office, by calling 702.284.7777 or visiting www.suncoastcasino.com.
