Two-time Grammy Award winner and Emmy winner, Jack Jones, will perform at Cabaret Jazz at The Smith Center on October 17-18 at 7 p.m. Jones will be accompanied by pianist Christian Jacob, bassist Chris Colangelo and drummer Kendall Kay during this performance inside the intimate venue. With over 50 recorded albums (17 of them charting Billboard’s Top 20) and two Grammys, Jack Jones continues to charm audiences with his wit, sensitivity and vocal power. Jones made his professional debut when he was just 19 years old during a stint as part of his father, Allan Jones’ act at the Thunderbird Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Jones is widely known for his recordings of “Wives and Lovers” and “Lollipops and Roses.” In addition to a successful recording career, Jones’ credits include film and television roles; he has also performed and recorded popular theme songs for film and TV such as “Love with a Proper Stranger” and “The Love Boat.”
“It is an honor to have the opportunity to return to the city that started it all for me and perform with an immensely talented trio of musicians,” said Jack Jones. “I am looking forward to getting the chance to really connect and engage with the audience in an intimate setting at The Smith Center.”
Jones’ newest album, Seriously Frank, celebrates the life of a man who he not only deeply admired but developed a close and long-standing friendship. Seriously Frank is a collection of songs selected by Jones that he feels accurately reflects the life, times and career of Frank Sinatra. The album features a 22-piece band with arrangements by the great Patrick Williams, one of the great arrangers of our time.
From his peers, such compliments as “A Singer’s Singer” and “He pours his heart into every song – there is an obvious joy in every performance” are commonplace. Just before he retired, Sinatra publicly said, “Jack Jones is the next major singer in show business.” Frank Sinatra, Jr. and his dad gave Jones two of the greatest compliments of his life. “One of the major singers of our time,” said Frank Sinatra. “He has the best voice, and he has made the best use of that voice… Jack has always been an excellent singer and is probably the best of all of us,” said Frank Sinatra, Jr.
The New York Times raves, “He is arguably the most technically accomplished male pop singer”. Smooth Jazz Magazine hailed, “To take songs from one of the greatest performers of the 20th century, and craft them into a proper tribute is not an easy task, but Jack Jones truly delivered”. The LA Jazz Scene raved, “The audience stood and cheered the artistry of Jack Jones and his fine backing musicians. It was one of the best evenings I ever spent in Catalina’s. Jack Jones delivered an exciting, well-paced program of fine classic tunes. Bravo!”
