Las Vegas Academy Students Design First New Year Motion Graphics for Stratosphere Marquee
Las Vegas Academy (LVA) graphic design students are helping spread New Year’s greetings along the Las Vegas Strip.
Special motion graphics created by three LVA students was recently selected as the winner in a design competition and will be displayed on the Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower’s marquee on New Year’s Eve just as fireworks launch off the Tower to welcome in the new year. This is the first time animation composed by local students has ever appeared on the Stratosphere’s marquee.
This is the third design project created specifically for the Stratosphere by LVA students. The projects give students “real world” experience in submitting designs, meeting with clients and presenting their final project. All student teams were a combination of second and third year design students. Many of them plan to pursue a graphic design career.
The winning animation was created by Morgan Black, Lasca Stafford and Tara Tran. The Stratosphere presented each of the three winners with a one year subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud. The winners and all those who submitted a design also received a Tower Pass good at the Stratosphere, tickets for Big Shot, X Scream and Insanity, the world’s highest thrill rides and a buffet for two. The public can view the winning motion graphics at Midnight on New Year’s Eve on the Stratosphere’s marquee during the fireworks. On New Year’s Day, the winning motion graphics, along with all the motion graphics submitted in the contest, will also be played throughout the day.
“The students would never have gained such great accomplishments if the assignment for motion graphics was only for class,” said Ashley Stroud, Graphic Design teacher at LVA. “They are really proud and excited that everyone’s video will be played on New Year’s Day.”
“It’s every artist’s dream to have their work displayed publicly. In this case, it’ll be seen by thousands on the Las Vegas Strip’s most iconic property and on one of the busiest nights of the year,” said Paul Hobson, Vice President, General Manager Stratosphere Casino, Hotel & Tower.
