The Las Vegas 51s professional baseball team of the Pacific Coast League (PCL), Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets, will open an eight-game homestand against American Conference opponent, the Oklahoma City RedHawks, Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros, on Thursday, August 8 at 7:05 p.m. at Cashman Field. The four-game series against the RedHawks will conclude on Sunday, August 11. Oklahoma City, winners of 11 straight games, has the best record in the 16-team PCL with a 67-50 mark (.573).
Las Vegas will then host the New Orleans Zephyrs, Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins, in a four-game series from Monday-Thursday, August 12-15. All games on the homestand will begin at 7:05 p.m. The 51s will be concluding a stretch of 16 straight games against the American Conference from July 30 – August 15.
The 51s, under manager Wally Backman, are concluding an all-Tennessee, eight-game road trip in Memphis against the Redbirds, Triple-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, on Tuesday evening. Las Vegas, 62-53, has been in first place or tied for 1st in the Pacific Southern Division since July 22. Three teams in the division are separated by three games (Las Vegas, 62-53 – -; Sacramento, 63-54 – -; Tucson, 60-57, 3).
2013 ATTENDANCE: In 53 dates, Las Vegas’ total is 254,224 for an average of 4,797. Las Vegas’ season-high crowds, which include four sellouts, are 11,776 against Round Rock on May 10 and 11,522 for the 10th Annual School Day Game against Albuquerque on May 14 at Cashman Field. The Las Vegas franchise has reached the 300,000 plateau in “home” attendance in all 30 seasons (1983-2012) and the all-time attendance total now stands at 10,240,738. The 51s organization have the proud distinction of being the longest enduring franchise in the history of professional sports in the state of Nevada.
Budweiser Dollar Beer Night will be featured both in the opener and the finale of the homestand on Thursday, August 8 & 15. Every Thursday home game throughout the 2013 campaign will feature “Dollar Beers.” Proper identification and wristbands are required for dollar beer night.
A spectacular post-game “Fireworks Show,” sponsored by Discount Tire will be featured in game two of the four-game series on Friday on Help of Southern Nevada Night. Sam’s Club Family 4-Pack Night will also be featured for the final time during the 2013 season. The 4-Pack consists of: 4 tickets to the game; 4 hot dogs & 4 sodas; 4 Las Vegas 51s Hats. Cosmo Piggy Bank Night will be featured on Saturday, August 10 and the first 2,500 fans through the gates (open at 6 p.m.) will receive a Piggy Bank of the 51s popular mascot. Cosmo, a fan favorite of all ages, is in his 13th season. Cosmo is a survivor of a spaceship crash who spent time at “Area 51” and was a baseball phenomenon on his home planet of Koufaxia.
Oklahoma City’s roster features two of the top 10 prospects in the Astros organization, according to Baseball America: First baseman Jonathan Singleton (No. 2) and outfielder George Springer (No. 3).
Value Menu Monday will be presented in the opener of the four-game series against New Orleans on August 12. Monday “home” games will feature a “Value Menu” for the fifth straight season. The 51s and Aramark have teamed together for discounted food items on Hot Dogs, Popcorn, Peanuts, Cracker Jacks and Pretzels for just $1.00 per item.

The 51s will broadcast all games on Lotus Broadcasting on Sports 920 The Game, which will carry live all 144 regular season games. Also, all games will be available on the 51s website (Major League Baseball Advanced Media, MLBAM) at www.LV51.com. Russ Langer, the eight-time Nevada Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA), is in his 14th season behind the microphone calling 51s baseball.

Following the homestand, Las Vegas will embark on a brief five-game road trip to Salt Lake City, Utah to face the Bees, Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The five-game series will be from Friday-Tuesday, August 16-20. The 51s’ final road trip of the 2013 regular season will feature a six-game series at Colorado Springs, Colo., against the Sky Sox, Triple-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, from Monday-Thursday, August 26-29. The series will feature “two double-headers” on Monday & Wednesday, August 26 & 28. The Sky Sox-51s had two games postponed due to cold temperatures in Colorado Springs on Monday-Tuesday, April 22-23.
Tickets for all 51s home games can be purchased at the America First Credit Union Box Office at Cashman Field. The box office is open Monday-Friday (non game days) from Noon to 4:30 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased through Ticketmaster (1-800-745-3000, www.ticketmaster.com). Ticketmaster outlets are located at selected Smith’s Food & Drug.
The individual game tickets for the 72-game home season are priced at $10.00 (reserved, $11.00-Day of Game); $13.00 (plaza, $14.00-Day of Game) and $14.00 (field, $15.00-Day of Game). The traditional $2.00 discount for Military personnel is offered on plaza and reserved seats throughout the season except for the “Fireworks Extravaganza” that was held on Wednesday, July 3.
