The College Baseball Foundation (CBF) announced on Tuesday afternoon that Carson Lane is the National Pitcher of the Week after being the main contributor in the 9-0 win over Fresno State last Friday in Earl E. Wilson Stadium.

Lane’s performance in the previously-mentioned victory marked UNLV’s first no hitter since the 2003 season, the sophomore right hander pitched a career-high eight innings on the mound for the Hustlin’ Rebels. In his start he tossed nine strikeouts, fanning two Bulldogs in two different innings during the game. Lane also eclipsed his first triple-digit pitch game during his eight innings, marking a career-high 108 pitches without throwing a wild pitch or causing a balk during the game. Will Marquart rounded out the ninth inning for the Rebels in the win to secure the combined no-hitter. Lane picked up the national honor after picking up the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week accolade yesterday.

Each week the CBF recognizes weekly award winners in conjunction with the Brooks
Wallace Award, John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award and the National Pitcher of the Year Award. The purpose of the College Baseball Foundation (CBF) is to preserve, elevate, and advance the game; to inspire the next generation; to teach those who love college baseball about its rich history and traditions; to celebrate those who make college baseball special; and to honor those who have come before us, and built the foundation upon which college baseball thrives today.

The College Baseball Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization. The CBF presents the Brooks Wallace Award (Nation’s Most Outstanding Shortstop), the National Pitcher of the Year, the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year, the Skip Bertman National Coach of the Year, the George H.W. Bush Distinguished Alumnus Award, and the Wayne Graham Award for Teaching Excellence Award.

The Hustlin’ Rebels will take the field later today at the Las Vegas Ballpark, competing in their annual battle against Arizona State in Summerlin. The first pitch for that game is set to 6:05 p.m. PT. To get updates on all things Hustlin’ Rebels, links to the season’s games can be found on the team’s schedule page.
