The UNLV women’s basketball team will continue Mountain West play at Colorado State on Saturday, Jan. 6. The Lady Rebels started conference play with a huge victory over Utah State, defeating the Aggies 107-68 at the Cox Pavilion.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT: UNLV is 24-32 all-time versus Colorado State, although the Lady Rebels have won the last four out of five meetings including two wins last season. UNLV is predicted to win the MW for the third straight season and Colorado State has been picked second in the MW preseason poll. Colorado State has an overall record of 9-3 and 0-1 in MW standings after the first league play weekend. The Rams fell 71-74 in OT against San Diego State in San Diego. Nationally, Colorado State is ranked sixth in three-pointers per game (9.9). McKenna Hofschild leads the Rams in points per game (23.1), assists per game (8.8) and steals per game (1.2). Hannah Ronsiek is the leading rebounder for Colorado State and averages 5.7 boards per game.

LADY REBEL LEADERS: Following a successful non-conference season and win in the first weekend of MW play, the Lady Rebels have three players scoring in double-figures. Desi-Rae Young leads the group in scoring, as she averages 18.9 points per game and is the leading rebounder (8.8 rebounds per game). Kiara Jackson leads the Lady Rebels in assists per game (5.4) and is the second-leading scorer averaging 12.8 points per game. Alyssa Durazo-Frescas is the third Lady Rebel in double-figure scoring averaging 10.3 points per game, she also leads the squad in three-pointers per game (2.9).
LAST TIME ON THE COURT: The UNLV women’s basketball team opened Mountain West play in the win column after defeating Utah State 107-68 on Saturday afternoon at Cox Pavilion. The Lady Rebels have not lost in a conference opener under head coach Lindy La Rocque. Desi-Rae Young led the Lady Rebels with 31 points, only one-shy of her career-high. Young shot 11-for-17 from the field, was 1-for-2 from behind the arc and 8-for-9 at the free throw line. Young added nine rebounds and had four assists. Jasmyn Lott put up a career-high 14 points and shot 4-for-5 from the field and was a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line. Kiara Jackson led the squad in assists with nine, which tied her career-high and the second time this season she has dished nine assists.
SQUAD UP: UNLV returns nine of the 12 players from its 2023 championship squad including three starters and Mountain West Sixth Player of the Year, Kiara Jackson and MVP of the Mountain West Championship, Desi-Rae Young. New to the squad this season are four freshmen, forward McKinna Brackens, point guard Amarachi Kimpson, guard Macy Spencer and forward Meadow Roland, and junior transfer Macie James, a forward from Oklahoma State.
