The UNLV women’s basketball team is hitting the road to visit Wyoming on Wednesday, February 21 at 5:30 p.m. PT. The Lady Rebels are looking for their eighth straight win.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT: UNLV is 30-28 all-time versus Wyoming. In the first matchup of the season between the two squads on Jan. 31, 2024 for a first-place battle, the Lady Rebels defeated the Cowgirls 58-51 in Las Vegas at the Cox Pavilion. UNLV was led that night by Desi-Rae Young with 15 points and she brought down six rebounds. Wyoming was led by Emily Mellema and Malene Pederson who each had 12 points apiece. Heading into Wednesday’s game, the Cowgirls have a 14-10 overall record and a 9-4 record in conference play. Wyoming just suffered a tough 75-70 loss to Colorado State in Fort Collins. The Cowgirls have two players averaging double-digits in scoring and are led by Allyson Fertig with 13.2 points per game. Fertig is also the squad’s leading rebounder, bringing down 7.9 boards per game.

SQUAD LEADERS: Desi-Rae Young leads the Lady Rebels in scoring, averaging 19.3 points per game and is the leading rebounder (9.6 rebounds per game). Kiara Jackson leads UNLV in assists per game (5.0) and is the second-leading scorer averaging 11.3 points per game. Alyssa Durazo-Frescas is the third leading scorer on the squad, averaging 8.3 points and Alyssa Brown is the second leading rebounder, bringing down 7.8 boards per game, respectively.
LAST TIME ON THE COURT: The UNLV women’s basketball team earned a huge 95-68 victory over Air Force on Saturday, February 17 at the Thomas & Mack Center. The Lady Rebels have now won 23 straight games against Air Force and continue to hold the overall series 51-5. The Lady Rebels had four players in double-digits and were led by Desi-Rae Young with 19 points by shooting 7-for-9 from the field and was 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Young also led the squad in rebounds with nine (one offensive, eight defensive). Kiara Jackson was the second-leading scorer for UNLV with 14 points by shooting 6-for-10 from the field, was a perfect 2-for-2 at the free throw line and dished a team-high eight rebounds.
SQUAD UP: The Lady Rebels return nine of the 12 players from its 2023 championship squad, including three starters and Mountain West Sixth Player of the Year Kiara Jackson. UNLV added four freshmen, forward McKinna Brackens, point guard Amarachi Kimpson, guard Macy Spencer and forward Meadow Roland, and junior transfer Macie James, a forward from Oklahoma State.
