LADY REBELS DOUBLE DOWN WITH TWO MORE COMMITMENTS

Big 12 forward, Houston area all-star join UNLV women’s basketball

Oklahoma State transfer Macie James and Texas prep standout Macy Spencer have signed commitments to play with the Lady Rebels next season, UNLV Head Coach Lindy La Rocque announced Wednesday.

James, a 5-foot-11 forward from Fresno, California, played two seasons with the Cowgirls. As a freshman, James appeared in 28 games, starting four, averaging 4.7 points and 1.9 rebounds. She played in 10 games last season.

ESPN HoopGurlz ranked James 88th overall and the No. 26 small forward of the Class of 2021. James’ senior season at San Joaquin Memorial was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a junior, she averaged 17 points, six rebounds, four assists, three steals and one block to earn Cal-Hi Sports Division II All-State First Team honors.

“Macie is a tremendous athlete,” La Rocque said. “She’s able to get to the rim and takes great pride in her defense. She will contribute well to the style of play you’ve seen from our frontcourt.”

Spencer was named co-MVP of District 19-6A this season after earning offensive player of the year honors as a junior. Spencer was also selected to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) All-Region and Greater Houston Area All-Star teams.

“Macy’s abilities on the court add an exceptional playmaker to our team,” La Rocque said. “Offensively she has impressive range and skill. She has a scorer’s mentality and Lady Rebels fans will be excited to watch her this upcoming season.”

The 5-foot-9 guard from Obra D. Tompkins High School in Katy, Texas, was coached by Tamatha Ray. Spencer led the Falcons to a district title and the state regional quarterfinals in 2023. Spencer owns 14 school records, including the single-season and career records for points scored, 3-point field goals made, assists and steals. Spencer played for the AAU club The Hoop Society, coached by Will Jefferson.

The addition of Spencer adds a fourth freshman to the Lady Rebels’ incoming class.

Today’s additions increase UNLV’s roster to 14 players. The Lady Rebels return nine veterans and had previously signed three incoming freshmen.
