UNLV FACES THREE RANKED TEAMS IN NEXT SEVEN DAYS…
Saturday’s contest at 18th-ranked Stanford will be the start of the most difficult week of the season for the UNLV Lady Rebels, as it will be the first of three games in a seven-day stretch against teams currently ranked in the Top 25 of the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Poll. The Stanford Cardinal come in at No. 17 in that poll, while Mississippi State is No. 3 (No. 5 AP) and Syracuse is No. 23 (receiving votes in the AP). The Lady Rebels will face MSU and Syracuse next week when it hosts the Duel In The Desert on Dec. 20-22 in Las Vegas in the Cox Pavilion.
First, UNLV will have to deal with a Stanford team that reached the Final Four last year, and has played the 12th toughest schedule in the nation this season. The Cardinal have faced top-10 Ohio State twice as well as No. 1 UConn and No. 9 Baylor.
UNLV has lost nine straight games against ranked opponents, with the last win coming over No. 16 George Washington 62-61 on Nov. 30, 2007. All-time the Lady Rebels are 2-4 against the No. 18 team in the Top 25 AP Poll, while the last time they claimed a road win over a ranked opponent was an 80-75 victory over No. 22 Long Beach State on Jan. 12, 1990.
