LADY REBELS BEGIN PACIFIC COAST ROAD TRIP

UNLV visits Fresno State Thursday ahead of games at SDSU, San Jose State

All the leaves are brown and the sky is gray, but the Lady Rebels are California dreamin’ this week.

UNLV hits the road for a three-game stretch in California to kick off the new year. The Lady Rebels’ first stop is Fresno State for a Thursday night date with the Bulldogs. Tip-off is 6 p.m. PT.

UNLV (12-2 overall) is the lone 2-0 team in the Mountain West Conference while Fresno State (7-8, 0-2) is looking for its first league win. The last time the Lady Rebels started conference play 3-0 was the 2011-12 season. UNLV has won four straight against Fresno State and has not lost during head coach Lindy La Rocque’s tenure.

UNLV follows with a visit to San Diego State on Saturday, Jan. 7, and then San Jose State on Wednesday, Jan. 11, before returning to Las Vegas.

Alyssa Brown was fouled with 0.2 seconds to play in regulation and hit the free throws to send UNLV to overtime in its 91-88 victory over Colorado State. Down 2 with 1.1 seconds to play, Kenadee Winfrey inbound from the sideline to Brown, posted under the basket. Brown drew a foul from Joseana Vaz on her layup attempt and knocked down two free throws to even the score 81-81. Brown scored 12 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in her first extensive action since being sidelined two games with a knee injury.

Colorado State was the national leader in assist-to-turnover ratio when it met UNLV on Dec. 31. UNLV held the Rams to six assists and forced 14 turnovers. The Lady Rebels prevented the Rams from playing their preferred offensive style and forced one-on-one matchups. Having entered the game as the Mountain West’s leader in assists (17.5 per game), UNLV held CSU to a season-low six assists.

McKenna Hofschild, who entered the game as the nation’s second-leading assister (8.3 per game) was held to a season-low three.
